The monument to Prince Mihailo Obrenovic III in Belgrade on the main square of the republic (Trg Republike) was erected in 1882 and is the first monument representing a Serbian ruler on horseback. It is both the oldest and the most representative figural Serbian memorial.
The monument is used as probably the most popular meeting place in Belgrade downtown. The city center is usually crowded with people and the monument often serves as a recognizable landmark that is impossible to miss when a meeting is arranged.
When arranging a meeting, the monument is often referred as ‘at the horse’. Many times when arranging meetings people say "I'll see you at the horse" without thinking about the fact that the monument is dedicated not to the horse but to the prince who liberated the Serbs of Turkish occupation.
The point is surrounded by chic cafes and lovely old architecture. Behind the monument is building of National Museum of Serbia which is the largest and oldest museum in Belgrade.
