This piece is a fused glass drop vessel. After designing the piece, I cut and assembled the varying colors of glass and fused them together into a 5/8" thick flat slab. This then went back in the kiln over an elevated shelf I made with the oval shape of the piece cut into it. The process is kind of magical as the glass is slowly heated and gravity causes it to drop through the hole in the shelf, creating a bowl-shaped vessel. I was thinking of spring, renewal and rebirth when designing the piece.
